Call for Art

The Stanislaus Arts Council is proud to announce an upcoming exhibition in partnership with the Stanislaus Latino Chamber of Commerce in celebration of
The History of Low Riding Holiday, taking place in Downtown Modesto on Friday, September 26, 2026.

This exhibition seeks to honor and celebrate the rich cultural history, artistic expression, community pride, and intergenerational legacy of lowrider culture throughout Stanislaus County and across California. Lowriding has long stood as a powerful symbol of creativity, identity, craftsmanship, resilience, and cultural storytelling, and we invite artists to help tell that story through visual expression.

The exhibition will coincide with a vibrant community celebration featuring lowrider car showcases, local cultural bearers, Folklórico performances, live music, artists, community organizations, and cultural experiences that reflect the beauty and legacy of this important tradition.

We invite artists of all backgrounds and disciplines to submit original works inspired by the history, influence, artistry, and cultural significance of lowriding and the communities that have helped shape its legacy.

All accepted artwork must be delivered during the designated receiving window above. If you are unable to deliver during this time, please communicate with us as early as possible so alternative arrangements can be discussed.

Artwork Pick-Up Date:
October 5, 2026
Between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

All artwork must be retrieved no later than Friday, October 9, 2026.

Eligible Artwork

We welcome submissions across all artistic mediums, including but not limited to:

Painting, Photography, Illustration, Mixed Media,, Sculpture, Textile Art, Ceramics, Digital Art, Printmaking, Other 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Artwork

We strongly encourage submissions that explore themes connected to:

The history of lowriding in California
Lowrider culture in Stanislaus County
Chicano and Latino cultural identity
Community legacy and cultural preservation
Automotive artistry and craftsmanship
Family, tradition, and intergenerational storytelling
Movement, music, and cultural expression

All submitted work must be original, artist-made work; AI-generated artwork is not eligible for inclusion, as this exhibition prioritizes direct human authorship, artistic intent, and demonstrated craft.

Additional Exhibition Opportunity

Artists who have a larger body of work or an extended collection related to this theme are encouraged to contact us directly. As part of the broader community celebration taking place on September 26, we are actively exploring additional opportunities for artists to showcase expanded collections or participate in special exhibition opportunities connected directly to the event experience. If you have a collection you believe may be a strong fit, we encourage you to reach out to discuss additional possibilities.

Submission Fees

$5 per artwork submission

Maximum of 5 submissions per artist

Please note: No payment is required at the time of submission.

Once submissions have been reviewed and received, artists will be sent an invoice for applicable submission fees.

All submission fees directly support our gallery space and help offset the materials required to facilitate community-centered exhibitions and arts programming. If submission fees are a barrier to participate please let us know and we can assist.

Artists are strongly encouraged to carefully review all gallery hanging guidelines and requirements prior to submission, as our gallery operates within a boutique exhibition space that has specific installation limitations.
