Trash to Treasures: Found Object, Upcycled, Repurposed, Recycled Art Exhibition Comes to Mistlin Gallery

Modesto, CA – 3/5/24 – Mistlin Gallery is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition "Trash to Treasures: Found Object, Upcycled, Repurposed, Recycled Art," running from June 11 to July 12, 2024. This inclusive show invites artists of all backgrounds to transform discarded or unwanted items into unique works of art, highlighting the importance of sustainability and creative reuse.

Curated by esteemed artists Karen Kingsbury and Marilyn Zinner, known for their innovative approach to art-making using upcycled materials, this exhibition aims to inspire artists and viewers alike to reconsider the potential of everyday objects. From wall hangings to sculptures, fabric art to small furniture pieces, the possibilities are endless.

Karen Kingsbury, renowned for her whimsical mosaic sculptures of animals, shares her passion for upcycling: "Underneath each creation is a base usually made from objects I find in the house or the yard. Pool noodles can be the base of a dog, small bottles can become bees with dancing feet, while a traffic cone can become a unicorn." Kingsbury also teaches classes in Modesto, demonstrating how unwanted dishes can be transformed into beautiful mosaic works of art.

Co-host Marilyn Zinner adds, "For artists wishing to enter the show, your artistic imagination is unlimited. Create, experiment, bring us your best upcycling ideas. Be adventurous. Look at your community’s recycling opportunities. You may get inspired and find some way to help solve the trash problem and create some of your own treasures."

The exhibition will feature artworks by local artists alongside pieces by Kingsbury and Zinner, showcasing the diverse interpretations of the theme "Trash to Treasure." Visitors can expect to be captivated by the creativity and resourcefulness displayed in each artwork.

The reception and prize awards will coincide with Modesto’s Third Thursday Art Walk on June 20th, offering attendees the opportunity to meet the artists and celebrate their achievements.

Community members are encouraged to visit Mistlin Gallery during the exhibition to witness firsthand the beauty and ingenuity of upcycled art.
